Blue Ridge Bucket List: Kids Edition

A popular destination for getaways with friends, couples' retreats, family reunions, and more, Blue Ridge offers plenty to see and do to keep people coming back again and again. But did you know Blue Ridge also has plenty to do for kids, as well? If you're headed to the area with children, make sure you check off the items on this list!

1. Visit Mercier Orchards

At 200 acres, Mercier Orchards is the largest apple orchard in Georgia. It’s also Southern Living’s favorite “roadside apple market” of 2002. With countless goodies to offer, including their North Georgian fried pies—a local favorite, Mercier Orchards is also the perfect place for a fun family outing. Kids will love exploring this incredible specialty shop—and, of course, trying their famous fried apple pies.

2. Mine for gems at Lily Pad Village

The Lily Pad Village is wonderful, friendly family fun center located right in Blue Ridge where you can bring the kids to learn about local geography and mine for gems. Located in a shady mountain setting, children will have a great time seeing what treasures they can discover. They can also enoy putt-putt, pond fishing, ice cream, hiking, and an outdoor cafe—what more could any kid want?

3. Go Ziplining at Blue Ridge Canopy Tours

See Blue Ridge in a fun and exciting way—from above it! The perfect spot for a family fun adventure, Blue Ridge Canopy Tours is the first and only mountainside canopy tour in the Blue Ridge Mountains. With over a mile of zip lines and over 13 platforms, you will surely enjoy zipping above Blue Ridge!

4. Play Mini Golf

What's more fun than 18 holes of mini golf? Cohutta Cove Mini Golf is perfect for adults and children alike. Players can play 7 days a week, day or night. Refreshments are available for purchase, as well!

5. Check out Huck's General Store

Huck's General Store is an Old-time general store nestled in the beautiful North Georgia Mountains. While the kids explore the goodies, you might find yourself looking around you and saying "Do you remember these?" or "I haven't seen these since..." and back to your childhood memories you go. Kids can grab a bucket and have fun filling it with candies from the old-time barrels and hunt through their abundant toy section filled with new and nostalgic toys, puzzles, and much more.

6. Tube down the Toccoa River

Tubing down the Toccoa River is a great outdoor activity for kids and adults alike! You'll enjoy the sights and sounds of nature and see forests, pastures, wildlife, mountain laurels, and rhododendrons as you float along. There are tube rental options available, as well as transportation to pick you up. So enjoy a trip down the river alone or in a "snuggle tube" that carries two people!

7. Cross the Swinging Bridge

A popular destination for hikers, The Swinging Bridge will be a thrilling time for children, too! The 265-foot-long bridge is the longest swinging bridge east of the Mississippi River! Your family will indeed feel the thrill and excitement as you cross.
