Many travelers visit Blue Ridge for its quaint shops, proximity to Atlanta, or just to cozy up in a luxury cabin for the weekend and have some time away from reality. However, for those adrenaline-seekers who enjoy a fast pace on vacation, Blue Ridge holds so much in store for you! Bursting at the seams with opportunities to experience the outdoors, North Georgia offers many excursions ranging in difficulty. Here is a sample itinerary for those who purely want to live in the moment and be outside while in Blue Ridge!
First Day:
To maximize your time in Blue Ridge, head up early to go zip lining! Soar over the Blue Ridge mountains and begin your vacation, reveling in the beauty and awe-inspiring views. If heights don't suit your fancy, book a whitewater rafting trip instead! Paddle your way through Class III and IV rapids on the Ocoee River, the site of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics! You can reserve either experience through Ocoee Rafting, so book in advance to secure your opportunity to be a dare-devil.
Second Day:
Blue Ridge, located in Fannin County, is named the Trout Capital of Georgia, so enjoy a guided fly-fishing trip either right from your cabin (if you reserved a riverfront property) or in the surrounding area! Joe DiPietro is one of our favorite guides, and no matter your fishing experience, he will give you an unforgettable experience while you chase the monster trophy rainbow trout....

From there, head to Appalachian Trail Rides to bring out your inner cowgirl or cowboy while trotting through the mountains, creeks, and fields of Blue Ridge.
To end your fun-filled day, take a drive out to Brasstown Bald for a sunset hike! The tallest mountain in Georgia, Brasstown Bald, includes a 0.6-mile uphill hike with 360 degrees of mountain views at the top (well worth the walk!). From there, you can view three states and see almost all the way to Atlanta!
Third-Day:
On your last full day in Blue Ridge, visit The Swinging Bridge for some more natural beauty! A 270-foot suspension bridge built in 1977, this easy hike perches over the Toccoa River, and the other side of the bridge holds mini waterfalls, streams, and much more to explore! While there (and while you are exploring Blue Ridge, for that matter), check out geocaching! Geocaching is like a modern-day treasure hunt — use your GPS and the app to find a cache with a name log, prize, or educational material.
When returning from this lovely hike, either rent a pontoon boat from Blue Ridge Boat Rentals or rent kayaks or paddle boards from Lake Blue Ridge Outfitters to explore Lake Blue Ridge! The pristine blue-green water and summer breeze will make you never want to leave North Georgia.
Fourth Day:
On your way home, include one final hike to your trip: Amicalola Falls! The third-highest waterfall east of the Mississippi, this stunning sight is a must for your North Georgia vacation. As you head home after the fact, take a few moments to share your favorite experiences and ride the high of your exciting and outdoorsy Blue Ridge visit!
